With the season a few days away, the Chiefs have made their cuts and announced their final roster for the 2020 season.
Offensive Roster Cuts
QB: Matt Moore, Jordan Ta’amu
RB: Elijah McGuire, DeAndre Washington
WR: Kalija Lipscomb, Gehrig Dieter, Maurice Ffrench, Jody Fortson, Justice Shelton-Mosley
TE: Daniel Helm
OT: Jackson Barton, Greg Senat
OG: Ryan Hunter
OL: Darryl Williams
The biggest surprise among the offensive cuts is Washington. The Chiefs tend to carry four running backs on their final roster. This year they have three.
Defensive Roster Cuts
DT: Braxton Hoyett, Devaroe Lawrence
LB: Emmanuel Smith, Omari Cobb, Darius Harris
CB: Chris Lammons
CB: Rodney Clemons, Lavert Hill
The only notable cut for the defensive side is Breeland Speaks. Speaks was a second round pick in the 2018 draft but has not been able to see the field much in his first two seasons.
Practice Squad
In the 2020 season NFL teams can have 16 players on their practice squad due to COVID concerns and the ability to promote from the practice squad without additional COVID testing. The Chiefs have currently signed 15 players to their practice squad.
- Jody Fortson
- Jordan Ta’amu
- Omari Cobb
- Maurice Ffrench
- Darryl Williams
- Gehrig Dieter
- Kalija Lipscomb
- Rodney Clemons
- Matt Moore
- Darius Harris
- Lavert Hill
- DeAndre Washington
- Tim Ward
- Braxton Hoyett
- Chris Lammons
Overall there were no real surprise roster cuts. Matt Moore took over the quarterback job when Patrick Mahomes was hurt last season but didn’t make the final roster this season and was instead placed on the practice squad. Fellow quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, a former XFL star, was also placed on the practice squad. Fan favorite Jody Fortson was named to the practice squad as well.
