Cleveland Browns Claim Two Defensive Linemen, Fill Practice squad

The Cleveland Browns added some depth to the defensive line yesterday and decided that four tight ends were enough. Here are all the moves they made Sunday and some information on the two new linemen added.

Players Claimed

DT Vincent Taylor via waivers from Buffalo Bills

Vincent Taylor is a 6-3 311 pound defensive tackle out of Oklahoma State. Taylor was drafted in the sixth round by the Miami Dolphins and appeared in 21 games over two years. After injuries cut short his 2018 season, the Dolphins cut Taylor, and he signed with the Bills practice squad. Overall, Taylor has appeared in 24 games with 51 tackles, two sacks, and three blocked field goals. He was released Saturday in the Bills cuts to 53.

DE Joe Jackson via waivers from Dallas Cowboys

Jackson is a 6-4, 285-pound defensive end originally picked in the fifth round by the Dallas Cowboys out of Miami in 2019. He became expendable when the Cowboys added Aldon Smith, Everson Griffen, and Randy Gregory. Jackson appeared in five games last season with four tackles, a quarterback hit, and one pass defended. Jackson’s big frame could help both inside and outside, keeping the Browns flexible upfront.

Cleveland Browns Waived on 9/06

DT Eli Ankou

TE Pharaoh Brown

Signed to Pratice Squad

WR Ja’Marcus Bradley

RB Benny LeMay

CB A.J. Green

Green made it through waivers and was an obvious choice for the Browns to add to the practice squad. It would not surprise if he ended up on the active roster at some point in 2020. The Browns paid him a record bonus for an undrafted free agent, so they certainly are interested in developing the young corner.

S Jovante Moffatt

WR Taywan Taylor

Taylor came to the Browns last season via a trade with the Titans. He has NFL experience should the Browns have injuries to the roster. Smart move by Berry and company with two games in the first week of the season. A veteran with knowledge of the offensive system is great insurance.

FB Johnny Stanton

S Elijah Benton

Elijah Benton was another undrafted free agent the Browns were high on. He brings some depth to the safety room should injuries occur, or someone is ineffective in the new system.

QB Garrett Gilbert

LB Montrel Meander

CB Robert Jackson

K Cody Parkey

A bit of an interesting move here by the Browns. Parkey does have experience kicking in Browns’ stadium should the need arise. He was with the team in 2016 and connected on 80 percent of his field goals.

T Brady Aiello

G Michael Dunn

RB Dontrell Hilliard

The Browns will now get to work preparing for the opener against the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday at 1 pm est.
