The 2020 season is upon us. And like many, I had my doubts that the season would begin in September. But it is and without further a do, let’s get right into it. Here is a preview of the Dallas Cowboys Week 1 matchup!
Going into the 2020 season the Cowboys have the sixth-toughest strength of schedule. Part of that tough schedule starts in week one. They will kick off the season playing the first ever game in the Los Angeles Rams’ new stadium on Sunday Night Football. Kickoff is at 8:20 PM ET on NBC, in a game I believe fans will not want to miss.
The Dallas Cowboys finished 8-8 last season and just barely missed the playoffs. A late year loss against the Eagles cost them a playoff appearance. “America’s Team” missed the playoffs, but they finished the season as one of the highest rated offensive teams in the league. With Mike McCarthy now at the helm, and Jason Garrett in New York, what can we expect to see from this team in week one?
A Worse Passing Defense
Last year the Cowboys finished the season giving up a 91.9 passer rating (20th in the NFL). They also gave up a completion percentage of 65% (25th in the NFL). Losing starting cornerback Byron Jones doesn’t help either. Although the team feels like they may have a young star in Chidobe Awuzie, I can still see their passing defense struggling before getting better.
A Better Pass Rush
Dallas finished last year at 19th in the NFL in total sacks. That may be why the team added defensive lineman Everson Griffen, who finished with 41 tackles and eight sacks last year on a stacked Vikings D-line. Also, I think it will be interesting to see how Aldon Smith plays out with this defense. The Cowboys took a chance on a guy who was dominant in his early years, but struggled with some off the field issues.
Even More Explosive Offense
This offense was already one of the most explosive in the league last season. Adding CeeDee Lamb to that may just be unfair. This is a guy who finished his three year college career with 173 receptions, 3292 yards, and 33 touchdowns. A guy of his caliber will help free up Cooper and Gallup in the pass game. The NFL community is expecting Dak to do big things this year. After receiving the franchise tag, adding Lamb will help him live up to massive expectations.
This first game is a very important one for Dallas. Both of these teams I feel will be very good this season. I’m going to predict that the Cowboys win this good matchup 21-17.
