Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing basketball scout Kendyl Provost Jr, discussing Duke’s 2020 recruiting class and much more. Provost is a scout for Circuit Scouting, a basketball scouting service designed for college basketball coaches. The interview is below.

What stands out to you about Duke’s 2020 recruiting class?

The versatility. I think that group meshes really well together.

What are your expectations for Jalen Johnson as a freshman at Duke?

He should be handling the ball a good bit. Would like to see him out of the post + show me he can get by his man off the bounce. Going pro for sure.

Several early 2022 NBA draft big boards have AJ Griffin at number one. What makes him so special?

He’s very young for his class. Great athlete, long, strong pull up shooter already. Super talented. With Griffin it’s injuries and his demeanor. It factor is in question.

Between Duke’s two five star freshman guards (Roach and Steward) which one should be more impactful as a freshman? And why?

Roach likely more impactful albeit less talented than Steward. He’s in the mold of Tre Jones and will facilitate + defend.
