Carey Price Traded For Frederik Andersen?

Frederik Andersen has been getting lots of hate from his current team’s fan base. The Toronto Maple Leafs fans are notorious for being cruel to their players. Their latest victim happens to be their starting goalie. Andersen has been the Maple Leafs starting goalie for the past 4 years and now the fans want him out. Who better to replace Andersen than Carey Price. Price has been one of the best and most consistent goalies during his NHL Career. Carey Price may be the piece the Maple Leafs need to put them over the top and make them Stanley Cup champions.

The trade would be a massive trade with lots of big names and salaries switching teams. The Maple Leafs have very limited cap space and GM Kyle Dubas will have to move one of his precious superstars. The Maple Leafs have lots of offensive firepower and lack defense. On the other hand, Montreal possesses a strong defense and a weak offense. The Maple Leafs will have to give up some of their strong offensive players to upgrade their defense and goaltending.

Canadiens receive: Frederik Andersen, William Nylander, and Alex Kerfoot

The Canadiens would greatly improve their offensive firepower by adding the fantastic goal scorer, William Nylander. Nylander scored 31 goals this season for Toronto on their 2nd line. With the Canadiens, Nylander will be the best goal scorer on the team and would likely score 30 goals or more a season.

Alex Kerfoot would be another fantastic addition to the Canadiens as they need center depth. Kerfoot is a center that could slide in on either their 2nd or 3rd line and be very effective. Kerfoot has the ability to score at least 15 goals a season. This production would be welcomed in Montreal as it would be far better than the results that the Canadiens are currently getting from this position.

Frederik Andersen is the key player in the trade as he is being forced out of Toronto. Andersen has been a great regular season goalie as he plays almost every night and is able to keep his team in the game every night. Come playoff time Andersen melts down and does not play as well as he is expected. With a stronger defense in front of him and a move away from the heavy critical Toronto media, Andersen could see his numbers greatly improve in Montreal.

Maple Leafs receive: Carey Price and Victor Mete

The Maple Leafs have a big need on defense. That is the weakest part of their entire team. Victor Mete is a young defensive defenseman that would slot in very nice in the Toronto lineup. Mete can play both the left and right defensive positions. This versatility will allow Sheldon Keefe to get creative with his line combinations.

The big piece and the hopeful answer the Maple Leafs are looking for comes in Carey Price. Carey Price has been the franchise star for the Canadiens. Toronto fans desire a goaltender that can steal a game or even a series and Carey Price can do just that. With Price suiting up as a Maple Leaf the team will continue to be successful and will advance deeper into the playoffs than Frederik Andersen brought them. With Price in net, the Maple Leafs will have their best roster in a long time.

After the trade, the Maple Leafs would boast one of the best offensives in the league along with one of the better goalie tandems in Carey Price and Jack Campbell. Victor Mete will surely help the defensive of the Maple Leafs and boost them to have an above-average defense core.

Final Thoughts

For who ultimately wins the trade the two teams both acquire what they need more of. The Maple Leafs have plenty of offense in their lineup and can sacrifice William Nylander and Alex Kerfoot. The improved defense and goaltending should propel the Maple Leafs deeper into the playoffs and hopefully turn them into a Stanley cup champion. The Canadiens also address their needs in this trade as they add the dynamic scorer in William Nylander and they add center depth with Alex Kerfoot. Frederik Andersen is also a great player that would be a wonderful addition to the Canadiens. He wouldn’t have to play as many games as he did in Toronto as Jake Allen is a very capable NHL goaltender who can win his fair share of games. Since both teams got what they desired neither is a loser and both win the trade.
