How The September 11 Attacks Impacted the NFL

Here in the United States, we remember those who lost their lives during the September 11 attacks in New York City when the Twin Towers were destroyed.

September 11 Attacks

From 8:46 PM-10:28 AM New York time, Al-Qaeda, a terrorist organization in Iraq and Afghanistan, struck the towers, killing 2,996 people. 19 of them were part of that terrorist organization.

Once the tragic event finally concluded our country changed. Some of the things you see in airports or sports stadiums rooted from the attacks. It also had an impact on the National Football League during the 2001 regular season.

Impact On The NFL

In the wake of the September 11 attacks, the NFL’s week 2 games (September 16 and 17) were postponed and rescheduled to the weekend of January 6 and January 7 of 2002. When teams resumed play, they showed unity for the country and the New York City area.
