Welcome to the Daily Miami Dolphins Notes, on September 15th, 2020. The topics are, week one team stats, practice squad protections, and more…
Week 1 Team Stats
Offensive Stats

The Miami Dolphins offense seemed weak and slow against the Patriots defense. In the passing game, the Dolphins rank 27th. The main reason for the passing defense being so low is that Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions and DeVante Parker got hurt at the beginning of the game. In the rushing game, the Dolphins rank 24th. Obviously, Jordan Howard did not play well so they benched him, Myles Gaskin looked explosive, and the Dolphins did not use Matt Breida nearly enough.
In points scored, the Dolphins rank 31st. The Dolphins and Patriots game was low scoring, so with Fitzpatrick throwing three interceptions, it makes sense that the Dolphins are so low. So, overall the Dolphins ranked 28th in total offense. Not a surprise since they played a top defense from last season.
Defensive Stats

The Miami Dolphins looked good on the paper, but they did terrible once it came to the real game. In the passing game, the Dolphins rank 1st. The main reason for this is that the Patriots did not need to pass the ball to win this game. In the rushing game, the Dolphins rank 32nd. The Dolphins were terrible against the run as they let Cam Newton run all over them.
In the points allowed, the Dolphins ranked 15th. The Dolphins did not let the Patriots score a lot, but the Patriots ran a lot of time off the clock. Overall, the Dolphins ranked 13th overall defensively, but currently, they are a top 20 defense at best.
Practice Squad Protections

Each team is allowed to protect four practice squad players, so no other team in the NFL will sign them. This week the Dolphins protected cornerback, Tae Hayes, tight end, Chris Myarick, quarterback, Reid Sinnett, and long snapper, Matt Orzech. Hayes played in two games for the Dolphins last season, where he had seven tackles and two passes defended. Myarick has not played a snap in the NFL, but he is a young tight end at 24 years old. Sinnett is an undrafted free agent from San Diego State, who was waived by the Buccaneers. Orzech was a long snapper for the Jaguars last season and if Blake Ferguson does not pan out he is the emergency option. Overall, four awesome decisions by the Dolphins and we could see some of these players play in the future.
Small Dolphins Notes

Ken Webster terminated his contract with the Dolphins for an undisclosed reason. He has not signed with any other NFL team yet.
Chan Gailey is going to expand on the role of Matt Breida after he was a non-factor in the game for the Patriots. Gailey is also unsure about the immediate future of Malcolm Perry and Lynn Bowden about them playing on the team. Bowden is still learning from the trade, says Barry Jackson.
