Jesus Luzardo came up big in game two of the A’s series against the Giants. Luzardo threw six inning shutout in a 6-0 win for Oakland.

The A’s lefty gave up five hits, struck out seven and walked no batters to pick up his third win of the season. Saturday’s shutout was Luzardo’s fourth start allowing no runs in a game.

Oakland’s offense did not have the greatest start. Giants starter, Kevin Gausman, gave up one hit and that was an RBI single by Matt Olson in the fourth inning.

When Gausman came out of the game, the A’s pounced on two Giants’ relievers in the seventh.

Oakland tallied five runs in the inning including a two-run homer from Jake Lamb, a two-run triple from Tommy La Stella, and an RBI double by Marcus Semien. That put the finishing touches on the game. Jake Diekman, Joakim Soria, and Lou Truvino combined for three shutout innings. The trio allowed one hit combined.

Oakland has now won three in a row as they continue to roll towards the postseason.

What did we learn?

The A’s pitching is going to be absolutely dangerous come postseason time. Both the starters and relievers have put together stellar seasons once again. This is a team you do not want to run into in the playoffs. Their depth in the rotation and in the bullpen is unreal.

You need to have pitching depth in the postseason and that’s why the A’s are considered World Series contenders. Not to forget about their dangerous lineup. Even without Matt Chapman, the offense has continued to put up runs to help out the pitchers.

We thought the Yankees were going to be the team to watch out for, but it now might be Oakland’s pennant to lose. This team is going to make some noise in October.
