Hakeem Dawodu edges out Zubaira Tukhugov to get Split Decision win
The first bout of the main card saw featherweights Hakeem Dawodu from Canada facing off against Zubaira Tukhugov of Russia. Dawoudu showcased his higher skillset by showcasing his striking (Dawodu outstruck his opponent nearly 2:1 in significant strikes) and his superior takedown defense as he stuffed 6 out of the 7 takedown attempts from the Russian. In the 1st, Tukhugov did manage to stun Dawodu with a batch of hard punches. However, in the 2nd, Dawodu picked up his pace landing more combinations showing his fast fists and swift kicks. In response, Tukhugov tried to catch Dawodu with heavy bombs but threw them to no avail. The final round saw Tukhugov trying to grapple the Canadian but in response, Dawoudu commanded Tukhugov to “Stand and Bang” in the center of the octagon. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, and 28-29 in favor of Dawoudu extending his winning streak to 5. What’s next for the featherweight?
- Hakeem Dawodu
- Arnold Allen
Ketlen Vieira gets back on track with unanimous decision over Sijara Eubanks
After suffering her first professional loss to the hands of Irene Aldana Ketlen Vieira knew she had to get back on top and she had the challenge of facing off against Sijara Eubanks. It was a back and forth with both fighters nearly having a 1:1 ratio in connected significant strikes but the difference was Vieira’s takedowns landing 2 of her attempted 5. Viera showed off her improved striking arsenal throughout the bout as she relished with her longer reach, which allowed her to sting Eubanks at a distance mixing her strikes from the body to the head. However, ‘Sarj’ wasn’t looking to back down as she traded back before Vieira went back to her grappling skillset even as Eubanks looked for a finish in the final round in order to secure a KO/TKO victory but however, the judges scored the bout 29-28 x 3 in favor of Vieria. This loss ended Eubank’s winning streak of 2. What’s next for Vieria?
- Ketlan Vieria
- Loser of Holm v. Aldana
Brandon Royval submits Kai Kara-France after wild first round brawl
This was my favorite bout of the main card no doubt and the favorite to many as it won ‘Fight Of The Night’. Both Royval and Kara-France met face to face in a wild brawl that had both fighters hurt and dropped with Kara-France hurting Royval with a solid punch before Royval returned the favor with a SPINNING BACK ELBOW. However, the action didn’t end just after the 1st round. In a rushed attempt to take down Royval, Kara-France was caught in a tight guillotine choke which ended the fight just under a minute in the 2nd round. This submission win is Royval’s 4th straight submission win. What’s next for the Flyweight?
- Brandon Royval
- Alexandre Pantoja
Jan Blachowicz finishes Dominick Reyes in brutal fashion to win title
POLISH. POWER. Although Reyes had the hot start by landing a left that slightly stunned the Polish Power Puncher had the rest of the fight in his favor. Brutalizing Reyes’ midsection with kicks that immediately bruised his upper ribs in the first. The finish didn’t come until the second round where Blachowicz broke Reyes’ nose within seconds of the round starting and dropping him shortly after to get the TKO finish. This finish is Blachowicz’s 4th straight win and Reyes’ 2nd straight loss. What’s next for the New Champ and the Contender?
- Jan Blachowicz
- Winner of Santos v. Teixeira
- Dominick Reyes
- Loser of Santos v. Teixeira
Israel Adesanya stalks and mauls Paulo Costa
When faced with a bigger stronger opponent, aim for the leg. (Think of the Giant Elephants in Lord of The Rings or the AT-AT’s in Star Wars) Israel Adesanya did just that the starting moments of this main event bout by chopping at Costa’s legs although the effects wouldn’t show until later in the fight. Adesanya showed his elite level of striking by out striking Costa 55 to 12 in Significant Strikes (Which is around 4.5-1). By the 2nd, Costa’s leg was swollen Adesanya’s plan worked as Costa slowed down. Adesanya continued to pick Costa apart as he landed a head kick that opened a cut over Costa’s eye before finally dropping Costa with a heavy left that hit him behind the ear that led to a TKO Ground and Pound Finish. This win extends Adesanya’s record to 20-0 and ends Costa’s 13 win streak. What’s next for the Middleweights?
- Israel Adesanya
- Jared Cannonier (If he beats Robert Whittaker)
- Paulo Costa
- Derek Brunson
