BREAKING: Owners Approve Steven Cohen as New Mets Owner

It is officially a new era in Flushing. This afternoon, MLB owners approved Steven A. Cohen as the new majority owner of the Mets. After years of yearning for new ownership, Mets fans can finally rejoice.

Jon Heyman was the first to tweet the announcement.

Cohen’s HIstory With the Mets

Rumors of a sale of the franchise first surfaced back in December. However, the negotiations collapsed in February after Cohen and the Wilpon family couldn’t come to an agreement. Negotiations picked back up again over the summer, and Cohen won the bid over opponents such as a group led by Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez, as well as Josh Harris and David Blitzer. Cohen will pay $2.42 billion for the franchise, though SportsNet New York was not included in the deal.

Cohen is now the richest owner in baseball, with his net worth estimated at $14.56 billion according to Forbes.
