What is Nolan Arenado’s Plan?

Nolan Arenado was asked about his future in Denver. The All-Star third baseman spoke to ESPN’s Karl Ravech and Mark Teixeria, and they got straight to the point. They asked him what is going to happen this offseason and who will he play for next year. Nolan had this to say:

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen,” Arenado said. “I think this year will be interesting. I’m hopeful that wherever—I wanna play for a winner. If that’s in Colorado, that’s great. And, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about: I just wanna win.”

So, What Does This Mean For Nolan Arenado and Colorado?

Well, it is not a good sign. In the last seven years, the Rockies have not been the “winner” that Nolan Arenado wanted to play for. When Arenado was a Rookie in 2013, the Rockies went 77-84; after 2013 it is a mixture of good and bad seasons.

Starting with 2014, the Rockies went 66-96, then in 2015, 68-94, and 75-87 in 2016. In 2017 the Rockies turned it around with an 87-75 record and then posted a 91-72 record in 2018. It looked like the Rockies found their stride and were becoming a good team. Then they went back down in 2019 finishing 71-91 and finally 26-34 in 2020 which put them fourth place in the NL West.

Predictions about Nolan Arenado’s Decision

Nolan Arenado has found some success in Colorado in his seven years there. The only thing that is scaring Rockies’ fans is that it wasn’t enough success to keep him in purple and white. I can see Nolan Arenado opting out of his contract and signing with a new team for next year. If this happens what does this mean for Colorado?

I think this opens up doors for the Rockies. They can use Josh Fuentes to fill the 3rd base roll and use the money that they saved to get some elite pitchers. Remember when Bryce Harper left the Nationals they won a World Series afterward? I would love for Nolan to stay in Colorado and hopefully bring in talent around him. The reality is that they have to have a plan if he does opt-out. It will be interesting to see how it plays out and what will happen next if he decides to play with another team in 2021.
