One of the best goal scorers in the NHL is currently a free agent. He has been a free agent for almost a month now. The free-agent sniper would be a great addition to any team who decides to sign him. Mike Hoffman is a consistent 30 goal scorer, and he should be the team’s number one priority if they want to add an elite scoring forward. In this article, I will write about three teams who should bring in the sniper and why he would do wonders for their franchise.
The Bruins are one of the best teams in the NHL and are consistently competing for the Stanley cup. If Hoffman wants to become a Stanley cup champion, then the Bruins are his best bet to get one. Boston lacks depth scoring, especially on their second line. Currently, the Bruins have David Krejci and Jake Debrusk on the second line. Adding Hoffman would drastically improve the scoring for Boston.
If Boston can sign Hoffman, the Bruins will have three fantastic forward lines and perhaps the best top nine in the entire NHL. After the addition of Craig Smith, the Bruins thought they had the answer on that second-line wing spot, but if the Bruins can sign Hoffman to play in that spot and move Smith down to the third line, then it just makes the Bruins offense that much more dangerous. Overall the Bruins would be a perfect team for Mike Hoffman to sign with as he will be joining a contending team that desires his scoring ability.
Columbus Blue Jackets
This signing makes too much sense for it not to happen. The Blue Jackets, like every other team in the NHL, love having big name goal scorers on their roster. Columbus needs a left-winger to play alongside the very talented Pierre-Luc Dubois. Last season Gustav Nyquist played alongside Dubois on the first line and was on pace to have a career season. Unfortunately, Nyquist is out for the next 5-6 months after getting shoulder surgery.
If Columbus decides to bring in Hoffman to play alongside Dubois, then they will have one of the best first-lines in all of the NHL. When Nyquist returns from injury, he can play on the second line with newly acquired Max Domi. The return of Nyquist will help fill out one of the best top-six forward cores in the entire league.
Could a reunion between the Senators and Mike Hoffman be in the future? It is an unlikely scenario, but I wouldn’t put it past Eugene Melnyk and Pierre Doiron to try and bring back the former Senator. Hoffman started to get the reputation of an elite goal scorer when he was playing for the Senators. Hoffman can follow his former teammate Evgenii Dadonov to Ottawa to try and recreate the goal-scoring magic they possessed will playing for the Florida Panthers.
Hoffman can play on the second line alongside Colin White and Connor Brown. These three should play very well today and will help push the Senators toward relevancy and possibly the playoffs. If you would like to read what we thought the Senators should have done during the offseason, then click right here. Frankly, the transactions by the Senators were a lot bigger and better than most people thought they were going to be.
Conclusion On Mike Hoffman
Whichever team is the lucky one to sign Mike Hoffman, they are going to be getting a top tier goal scorer who will hopefully propel the team deep into the playoffs. Hoffman is going to have massive goal totals and is going to score some meaningful goals for whichever team he decides to bring his talents to next. Hockey fans should be excited about this signing to go down.
