Per Dana White, Alistair Overeem (47-18-0) is set to face off against Alexander Volkov (32-8-0) as the headliner for UFC fight night on February 6th. With both fighters coming off impressive performances in their last fights, this looks to have big implications for the heavyweight division. If Volkov who is currently ranked number 6 can pull off the victory, he can set himself up for stardom. On the other hand, if Overeem who is ranked number 5 can get the win, then he will be one step closer to that “One final run!” towards the title.
“One Final Run!” Alistair Overeem to face Alexander Volkov Feb. 6th
Alexander Volkov fought on October 6 at UFC 254, in a fight where he displayed masterful skills. He dismantled Walt Harris by his accurate striking. He capitalized on body strikes and eventually found Harris starting to gas off. In the second round, Volkov landed a kick to the solar plexus that eventually lead to a knockout
Alistair Overeem had his main event on a UFC Fight Night last September 5. In that fight, he fought the fast up-and-comer Augusto Sakai, who has been on a tear defeating big names. Alistair Overeem showed why experience matters in fights. He not only beat Sakai, but he did it in a spectacular fashion. Overeem bloodied Sakai and finished him with some vicious elbows.
