Cole Caufield is only 19 and he is the trendiest hockey player in the world. He dominated the developmental leagues and is crushing the college circuit. This 5’8 forward from Wisconsin has grown in the last three seasons and has world-class speed and scoring capabilities. His ceiling is extremely high and he just barely scratched the surface to his young greatness.

Cole Caufield dominating the developmental leagues

Cole Caufield started in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in the 2017-2018 season. He scored 54 points that season which is one shy of the record. The following season he scored 72 points which smashed the single-season record. At this point, the whole world was keeping an eye on this young phenom.

Big Ten dominance

Cole Caufield decided to enter the Big Ten conference last season as a Freshman at the University of Wisconsin. He was the Big Ten scoring leader with 36 points. He received Big Ten first-team honors and the Freshman of the year award. This flashy forward isn’t done yet. In the same year, the Montreal Canadiens selected Caufield 15th overall in the 2019 NHL draft.

For Caufield’s Sophomore season, he is crushing the Big Ten Conference. This past week he received the first star for Big Ten player of the week. He shared 2nd and 3rd-star honors with G Drew DeRiddle of the Michigan State Spartans and F Thomas Bordeleau of the Michigan Wolverines.

With the first star, Caufield led the nation in points scored with six last week including four goals in a series sweep against Penn State. He recorded his second career hat trick on Tuesday night’s 7-3 win against Penn State. This is the first player to have two hat tricks in Wisconsin since Robbie Earl in 2004-2006. He finished the week with four goals with two by power play.

Getting better every year

Cole Caufield has actually grown two inches taller since last season which will give him an advantage at 5’8. Along with the height, he is a lot leaner and tremendously faster as a skater. His short stature was a worry at the NHL level but now isn’t a worry anymore.

World Junior Championships

Cole Caufield is expected to head to the World Junior Championships again. He dominated Canada in 2019. He had evaluations in October and will be gone in December 8th and 9th.

The trendiest hockey player in the world

Present time to a week ago Caufield has been trending on most hockey websites. HockeyDB has him listed as the most viewed player on the site in the past week. He is the most viewed prospect in the last month on the Elite Prospects website and has over 500,000 views in his lifetime. He is the most popular player on the net right now and that’s mostly attributed to the Habs fans. They are one of the best fanbases in all of hockey and they show it even in the offseason.
