Celtics and Hornets Complete Sign-and-Trade Deal for Gordon Hayward

Even though we have known that Gordon Hayward was going to be playing for the Charlotte Hornets next year for over a week now, we didn’t know if Boston was going to get something back. In the deal, the Celtics are sending Gordon Hayward and two future second-round draft picks to the Hornets in exchange for a conditional future second-round draft pick. The deal also gives Boston a trade exception. (per Shams Charania)

Boston has signed and traded Gordon Hayward and two future second-round picks to Charlotte for a conditional future second-round pick. Celtics also receive a trade exception.

The TPE is the biggest trade exception in NBA history and is worth 27.9 million, the Celtics have 12 months to go and use that TPE to sign a player. With the NBA season starting up in a few weeks, we will see if Boston’s front office does something except before the start of the season.
