Chicago Cubs Are ‘Very Open’ to Trading Willson Contreras

The Chicago Cubs are looking to make some moves this offseason. One of those moves could be a trade involving catcher Willson Contreras. He seems to be very available in trade talks at this point in time.

According to a report from Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Chicago Cubs are “very open" to trading their star catcher this offseason for the right price.

"Realmuto is still out there. So is Yadier Molina. The Cubs are very open to trading Willson Contreras. The Mets, in other words, have options."

Contreras Has Been a Fixture for the Chicago Cubs

Willson Contreras has been a key part of the Chicago Cubs for years. Unfortunately, the current core seems to have reached its full potential and is now heading downhill. Theo Epstein has left town as well, which leaves Jed Hoyer in charge of roster moves.

Last season with the Cubs, Willson Contreras ended up batting .243 to go along with seven home runs and 26 RBI"s. His consistency has always been an issue, although he is one of the best defensive catchers in the game.

During the 2019 season, Contreras put up big numbers. He batted .272 and also hammered 24 home runs while driving in 64 RBIs. Willson Contreras has a big bat, he just has to find consistency and that would take him to becoming an elite player.

It will be interesting to see what the Cubs end up doing this offseason. Rumors have been swirling that they could consider trading Kris Bryant or even Javier Baez, however, Willson Contreras seems like a much better bet to be on the move.

Plenty of moves are still to come this MLB offseason. Keep an eye on the Chicago Cubs to be one of the busiest teams on the market.
