Kris Bryant: How Nationals Could Trade for Cubs’ Star

The Chicago Cubs could very well be in sell mode this offseason and star third baseman Kris Bryant could be available for trade. If that is the case, there are plenty of teams that could come through with interest in acquiring him. One of those teams could be the Washington Nationals, who have a major need for an upgrade at third base.

Anthony Rendon was the star third baseman for the Nationals up until last year when he left to sign with the Los Angeles Angels. Acquiring Bryant from the Cubs would give them the much-needed replacement.

Unfortunately for the Cubs, Bryant’s trade value is way down following a rough season. The season was impacted heavily by COVID-19, but he still failed to perform up to standards. Despite his low numbers, Bryant should still be able to bring some talent in for the Cubs.

During the 2020 season with the Cubs, Bryant ended up batting just .206 to go along with four home runs and 11 RBI’s. Back in 2019, he was able to rack up a .282 batting average, 31 home runs, and 77 RBI’s.

With all of that being said, let’s take a look at a potential trade between the Nationals and Cubs that would send Kris Bryant to Washington.

Kris Bryant Mock Trade to Washington

Cubs Receive: INF Starlin Castro, RHP Wil Crowe, LHP Seth Romero, RHP Sterling Sharp

Nationals Receive: 3B/OF Kris Bryant

This is the kind of trade that the Cubs should be searching for in return for Bryant. The deal was originally suggested by

At 28 years old, the Nationals would be getting a long-term option in Bryant. They would be able to lock him up to a new deal and build with him being a cornerstone to their franchise. Perhaps a change of scenery could help unlock his full potential.

Chicago would be bolstering their pitching in the farm system, which would be a major positive. Over the last few years, the Cubs have traded away a lot of their young talent to try and win now. With Theo Epstein gone, Jed Hoyer could look to replenish the farm system.

Starlin Castro would also be a very intriguing addition for the Cubs. He had success in Chicago early in his career and is coming off of a season where he batted .267 to go along with two home runs and four RBI’s in just 16 games with the Nationals.

Why Both Teams Should Pull The Trigger On This Kris Bryant Deal

Bryant is still the kind of player that can be a superstar. Even with the lower numbers, no one should shy away from trading for him. If the Nationals pull the trigger on this deal, their offense would immediately become more dangerous.

There is no downside to this deal for the Nationals and they need help at third base. In order to get a big piece, the value must be given up.

For the Cubs, this deal would be a no-brainer. They bring back a player in Castro that could fill the void at third base for Chicago. Adding three talented young arms to the farm system would have to be intriguing as well.

Both of these teams are looking to head in new directions. This trade would allow them to do that.

Quite a few other teams are going to have an interest in acquiring Kris Bryant from the Cubs. Among those teams could be the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Boston Red Sox, however, this trade package from the Nationals could be the best offer on the table.
