The Time Aung La NSang Almost Fought in the UFC

Aung La NSang, arguably the most successful champion in ONE Championship. The Myanmar superstar and hero became a two-division world champion and has defended both belts, a feat very rare to accomplish. Aung La NSang is one of the most famous and loved fighters by the ONE Championship community, especially his hometown, where they even built a bronze statue to honor his greatness.

Aung La NSang’s journey is a story of inspiration. At the beginning of his career, he had ups and downs, even bouncing from one promotion to the other. It was then when he signed with ONE Championship that he started his impeccable run, going 11 wins with only 1 loss. His loss, however, was avenged as he made history in front of the huge Myanmar crowd. There in his beloved country, he defeated Vitaly Bigdash in their rematch and became the ONE Middleweight World Champion.

The illustrious career of Aung La NSang continues, beating each and every one of the contenders faced upon him. Recently, in a very heartbreaking fashion, Aung La lost his championship to Reinier De Ridder. As sad as it is, Aung La NSang’s path to greatness can’t be tarnished. He has already cemented his case as a Hall-of-Famer, and one of the greatest ever to step in the ONE Championship octagon.

How did Aung La NSang end up close to fighting in the UFC?

We all know that Aung La NSang fought once in Bellator, he won that fight knocking out Jesus Martinez. But did you know that Aung La NSang almost got to fight in the UFC? Yes, you read it right. The UFC, Ultimate Fighting Championship, an American MMA organization hailed as one of the superior leagues in the world.

In a podcast with EPIC MMA, Aung La NSang shared how he tried out in the famous UFC reality television series, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF).

“I also tried out in The Ultimate Fighter, you know, and both times I made it to the final, and then they take away weight class out. You know, so, it’s just not meant to be”

The Ultimate Fighter, based on their history, has showcased Light Heavyweights, Welterweights, and Bantamweights. And for a few seasons, Middleweights and Heavyweights has run the show. It is unfortunate his weight class was removed for the two times Aung LA tried out. But as he said, it’s just not meant to be. And it showed as Aung La had huge success in ONE Championship.

Aung La did not mention what year he auditioned. But can you imagine how things would be right now if Aung La NSang got into the UFC, and never fought in ONE Championship?
