Kyle Pitts Would Be a Perfect NFL Draft Target For Patriots

The New England Patriots have been an interesting team to watch so far this season. Entering Week 14, they have a 6-6 record and are ready to hit the road to take on the Los Angeles Rams, however, it has been clear that Bill Belichick and company need to make some moves this offseason.

Gone are the days of yearly Super Bowl contention with Belichick and Tom Brady leading the way. Cam Newton has not been able to come close to replacing the production that Brady brought to the field. In fact, there is a good chance that the Patriots could move on from Newton after just one season.

Offensively as a whole, the Patriots have plenty of holes to fill. Among them are tight end, possibly running back, quarterback, and even wide receiver.

Looking ahead to the 2021 NFL Draft, there are quite a few players the Patriots could look at to help fill out the offense. One of those players could be Florida Gators tight end Kyle Pitts. New England has needed help at tight end since Rob Gronkowski originally retired.

Why The Patriots Should Pursue Kyle Pitts

Pitts stands in at 6-foot-6 and nearly 250 pounds. If the Patriots were to bring him in, whoever their quarterback is would have a massive weapon to target. Even with the size he has, Pitts is still a very athletic tight end.

So far this season with the Gators playing alongside rising star quarterback Kyle Trask, Pitts has caught 36 passes for 641 yards and 11 touchdowns. Last season with the Gators, Pitts caught 54 passes for 649 yards and five scores.

There is no question that Pitts would be able to come in to New England and become the starting tight end. He would be able to make an instant impact as well. If Newton returns, the presence of a big and athletic tight end would be huge.

For years, the Patriots found a ton of success targeting a big tight end. Pitts may not end up being like Gronkowski, but he would be a piece that the team is desperately missing.

Josh McDaniels needs more weapons offensively. Julian Edelman, N"Keal Harry, and the rest of the wide receivers are not enough to give the Patriots the necessary firepower. Pitts may not be the quick fix to everything, but he would help.

An Interesting Comparison For The Potential Patriots" Target

Many have not seen Kyle Pitts play and are unsure what kind of player he could end up being. Well, there is an NFL comparison that has been made for him that will interest a lot of fans.

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah had a very intriguing comparison that shows star potential for Pitts in the future.

“Overall, (Darren) Waller is one of the top-tier tight ends in the game today and I see similar upside with Pitts." – Daniel Jeremiah

If the Patriots choose to bring him in, Pitts could become an elite tight end. He has all of the tools to become something special. This pick would be one that would pay off big-time if he reaches his full potential.

Expect to see the Patriots look to upgrade and improve their offense this coming offseason. They have a lot of defensive talents that sat out the year due to COVID-19 concerns. The offense is the pressing need and there are players available that they can target.

Kyle Pitts may not end up being drafted by the Patriots, but he certainly would make sense. If Belichick and McDaniels want to bring in the kind of dynamic they had with Gronkowski on the roster, Pitts might just be the perfect fit in the upcoming NFL Draft.
