MLB Network Replacing Chris Rose

MLB Network will be replacing Chris Rose sometime in 2021. That is unless the network decides to either cancel the show altogether or have Rose’s longtime co-host, Kevin Millar, perform a solo act. An emotional Chris Rose announced made the announcement during Friday’s telecast, with Millar alongside. The announcement ends a highly successful ten-year run for Rose as co-host of Intentional Talk.

So, it appears that the network will be replacing Chris Rose at some point. The network has been silent thus far as to how it plans to proceed. As Rose cites financial difficulties related to Covid-19, it is possible that Intentional Talk may not be alone in a re-assessment of the future. There was no mention of Millar’s status with the Network, but one can’t help but wonder about him, as well.

Replacing Chris Rose: The Impact On The Show

For those who are/were fans of IT, no matter who replaces Rose, the show will never be the same. He and Millar had a dynamic on-air chemistry, one that will be extremely difficult to replicate. Their passion for the game was evident with every broadcast. Further, If the network were to attempt some type of one-man show with Millar, it is hard to imagine it would be as entertaining as it has been. Rose and Millar were together on IT for ten years, and created a huge, dedicated fan base.

Broadcast personalities in sports come and go over time, but some still have strong associations with a particular team or program. When that association is abruptly ended, it often causes a strong reaction from fans of the particular on-air personality. Last week, when Len Kasper moved from Wrigley Field to Guaranteed Rate Field, the reaction was fast and furious on both sides of town. In any event, replacing Chris Rose will be a challenge for the MLB Network.

Replacing Chris Rose: Is It Even Practical?

After ten years on the air, it will be difficult for many fans to envision IT without Chris Rose. Along with Millar, Rose brought the game of baseball to fans all around the world in an entertaining, easy-to-love way. He had a style of making even the most mundane things seem interesting, and oh, that banter with Millar.

Even if MLB Network was considering replacing Chris Rose, who would they find that would please the millions of fans of the show? Beyond that, if financial considerations are in play, maybe there is no money at all. Would Kevin Millar be able to carry the show on his own? Further, what does this portend for the future of the MLB Network? Covid-19 shows no signs of going away anytime soon. At this time, we have more questions than answers.

Replacing Chris Rose: What Is In His Future?

Perhaps the most important question to be addressed is Rose’s future. It can be easy to look at his departure from IT without considering the effects it has on him personally. Rose will continue in his role as a host with the NFL Network. Beyond that, he will have to dust off his resume and explore the broadcasting job market. With his talents and personality, it is hard to imagine that he will be a free agent for very long. Certainly, his adoring fans will be watching to see where he lands.

Replacing Chris Rose: Final Thoughts

No matter how you slice it, Chris Rose leaving the set of IT is a sad day for baseball fans. For many fans, he was a fixture, and he will be sorely missed. If MLB Network is considering replacing Chris Rose, here’s hoping that they choose wisely. Here’s also to hoping that the talented and likable Rose lands on his feet, and continues to entertain and educate fans for years to come.
