NFL Mailbag: Best Fantasy Football Advice for Week 15

Welcome back to another installment of NFL Mailbag: Fantasy Football Advice. Here, I answer all of your questions from Twitter that I receive throughout the week. Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

The Raheem Mostert/Jeff Wilson Jr. Conundrum

"David Johnson or Jeff Wilson? .5 ppr." – @Mario_Barzini

This one is pretty simple for me. If Raheem Mostert sits, play Wilson. The Cowboys’ league-worst run defense allows over 160 yards per game, so Wilson is a top-10 play this week without Mostert in the picture. However, if Mostert DOES play, you have to roll with the starter in Johnson.

"Would you still start Wilson with Mostert playing?" – @Nandokalrissian

I’d definitely be more hesitant to start Wilson. He’s still a viable Flex option, but if you have players with larger guaranteed workloads, I’d play them over him.

Can Cam Akers Stay Hot?

"Do you trust (Cam) Akers?" – @sknowlax

I absolutely do. He’s been the Rams’ workhorse for back to back games now, and he has an amazing matchup against the Jets this week. Fire up the rookie with confidence for the foreseeable future.

"Akers or (D"Andre) Swift this week? Need an explosion after Waller dunked on me…" – @gchurchilli

I’d choose Akers. The Lions will likely be playing from behind all game and may have to abandon the run. The Rams should dominate the Jets and lean on the run game to coast to victory.

"Any way you would bench (Patrick) Mahomes against the Saints for (Kirk) Cousins? And Flex play… Tim Patrick, (Michael) Pittman, (Robert) Tonyan, (Cole) Beasley, or (Allen) Lazard? I need two." – @JoeyDrillings

You’re definitely overthinking Mahomes’ matchup. The Saints are great defensively, but you can’t bench the MVP frontrunner for Kirk Cousins. As for your two Flex spots, I’d roll with Patrick and Beasley. There’s some risk with Patrick,  but he’s scored double-digit PPR points in five of his last six games. As for Beasley, he’s got a safe floor and I love his upside with Josh Allen playing at his current level.

"Curtis Samuel or (Russell) Gage? – @bryancook012

As long as Samuel is good to go, you have to play him over Gage. He’s scored double-digit PPR points in seven of his last eight games. With Christian McCaffrey still sidelined, he’s going to play a major role in their offense.

"Jared Cook, (tyler) Higbee, Irv Smith Jr. or Cole Kmet?" – @vladdy32

I’d roll with the rookie and play Kmet this week. He’s served as the Bears’ No. 1 tight end for the past two games, and I like his odds of producing against a subpar Vikings’ secondary.

"Do you trust (Chris) Godwin?" – @boknows1978

Obviously, it depends on your other options. In general, I do trust Godwin though. One poor showing isn’t enough for me to bench him, especially against the atrocious Falcons secondary this week.

Defensive Fantasy Football Advice

"Best defenses to stream? I’m stuck between the ‘Hawks, Titans, and Browns in my two leagues." – @jfrye45

It’s gotta be the Browns in both leagues. They’re facing a really banged-up Giants offense that will either be lead by a limited Daniel Jones or a backup in Colt McCoy. I like their chances of exploiting either matchup.

"Titans or 49ers? (Evan) Engram or Gronk? Also, pick 2 – (Cooper) Kupp, (Russell) Gage, (Marvin) Jones Jr, or (Tee) Higgins? .5 PPR." – @kmcorder

The ‘Niners are playing the Cowboys, so that’s enough for me to fire them up this week. I’d roll with Gronk at TE. He usually either finds the end zone or racks up a decent amount of catches, and Engram is too volatile to trust. Finally, I’d go with Kupp as your first WR. He’s easily the best option here. Then I’d choose Jones Jr. as well, I love his boom chances with Kenny Golladay out.
