MLB Breaking News: Mets Acquire Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco

There is some huge MLB breaking news this morning as the New York Mets and Cleveland Indians have agreed to a blockbuster trade that will send star shortstop Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco to Queens. There had been rumors all offseason that Lindor, a pending free agent after 2021, would be on the move. In return, the Mets are sending shortstops Andres Gimenez and Amed Rosario to Cleveland, along with right-handed pitcher Josh Wolf, and outfielder Isaiah Greene. This MLB breaking news has the baseball world buzzing.

MLB Breaking News: The Returns

Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco

Francisco Lindor is widely regarded as the best shortstop in MLB. Even after a bit of a disappointing 2020, Lindor"s career numbers still look fantastic. He is a career .285/.346/.488 (117 OPS+) with 138 homers, 191 doubles, 99 steals, and 28.7 rWAR. Lindor is a four-time All-Star, a two-time Gold Glove winner, and a two-time Silver Slugger. He will fit right into the top of the Mets" lineup. The new challenge for the Mets is going to be negotiating a long-term deal for the 26-year-old.

Carlos Carrasco fills one of the Mets" biggest needs as a strong starting pitcher. After recovering from leukemia, he returned with a strong 2020 season, pitching to a 2.91 ERA/3.59 FIP (157 ERA+) and a 1.206 WHIP with 82 strikeouts in 68 innings (10.9 K/9). Mets starters not named Jacob deGrom or David Peterson had a cumulative ERA north of 7.00 in 2020, and Carrasco is expected to be a top-of-the-rotation starter.

Cleveland"s Returns

Andres Gimenez and Amed Rosario both have shown flashes of greatness at the big-league level. Gimenez finished seventh in Rookie of the Year voting in 2020 and led the Mets with eight steals. Rosario has been inconsistent in the majors, but his strong second-half performance in 2019 showed that the former top prospect has the potential to make an impact at the game"s highest level.

Josh Wolf was the Mets" second-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. He has only pitched eight professional innings but was ranked as the organization"s ninth-best prospect. Greene meanwhile was just drafted out of high school in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft. He has yet to play a professional game but was ranked as the organization"s 10th-best prospect.

MLB Breaking News: Closing Thoughts

Mets fans are rightfully excited by this morning"s MLB breaking news. This trade is a huge boost for the Mets. They haven"t had a legitimate shortstop since Jose Reyes left the team in 2011. The Mets also were able to fill another hole on their roster by acquiring Carlos Carrasco. The Mets have had an active offseason thus far and they aren"t done just yet.
