After a slow start to the hot stove season, we got MLB breaking news to discuss. Former Chicago Cubs OF Kyle Schwarber has signed a one-year, 10 million dollar deal with the Washington Nationals.

After starting his career in Chicago where he spent his first six years, the two parties decided to part ways after a disappointing 2020 season. Kyle Schwarber was a good player for the Cubs and at times was capable of looking great, but he never quite lived up to his lofty expectations.

Schwarber was brought up as a catcher before being turned into an OF shortly after his call-up. He struggled in the OF early on before becoming a decent fielder who had a cannon of an arm, arguably his most underrated skill in my opinion.

After being drafted fourth overall in the 2014 amateur draft, former Cubs President Theo Epstein made comparisons to all-time great Babe Ruth. This was something that didn’t help Schwaber because it created very high expectations that were borderline impossible to reach.

MLB Breaking News: What Does Kyle Schwarber Bring to the Nationals?

Kyle Schwarber primarily played left field for Chicago so it will be interesting to see what Washington does with him. Of course, they already have superstar Juan Soto in that spot so they may want to look to move Soto over to right field.

Otherwise, Schwarber is going to bring a quality bat who certainly is capable of hitting the long-ball. Hitting home runs has been Schwarber’s specialty since getting called up way back in 2015.

He is also no stranger to the big-time moments. Early on in his career Schwarber was very clutch for Chicago. Whether it was against the Cardinals in the 2015 NLDS, or against Cleveland in the 2016 World Series, Schwarber has never shied away from the biggest moments.

MLB Breaking News: Is this a Good Signing?

Washington signing Schwarber is a perfectly fine move for the team. He brings a good bat and can play average defense with a big arm. After missing the playoffs in 2020, the Nationals will be looking to get back, and adding Kyle Schwarber will certainly help them achieve that.
