It’s time for 2021 MLB predictions, the Blue Jays edition. The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off a shortened season but a successful one. A return to the playoffs with a young group is a good sign for the Toronto faithful. With little turnover, the Blue Jays are set up for another run at the playoffs. These 2021 MLB predictions will evaluate the Toronto lineup, along with how much potential the club has at contending to an AL East crown.
2021 MLB Predictions: Blue Jays Lineup Needs
The Toronto Blue Jays are one of few teams that have an abundance of money to spend, currently sitting at roughly $84 Million US. The stage is set for the Blue Jays to land a number one or two starting pitcher, which will help to solidify the pitching rotation. This is the focal point for the Blue Jays this off-season as they are looking for someone to compliment Warren Spahn Award winner Hyun-Jin Ryu. A big arm will also give Nate Pearson versatility throughout the rotation.
An addition for the infield, specifically third base for the Blue Jays, which is currently open for the taking. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will stay at first base with Rowdy Tellez and therefore leaving a hole at third. Santiago Espinal can fill the hole if needed, but an everyday third baseman would make life much easier for manager Charlie Montoyo.
Blue Jays Free Agent Rumors
Talks of Trevor Bauer surfaced after a New Year’s Eve video call with Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker. Toronto was in on the Tomoyuki Sugano sweepstakes as well, no deal was made in the 30-day window by any team in MLB.
2021 MLB Predictions: Blue Jays Roster
2nd Base: Cavan Biggio
Shortstop: Bo Bichette
3rd Base: Santiago Espinal
2021 MLB Predictions: Blue Jays to the top of the AL
The Toronto Blue Jays have jump-started their rise back to the top of the American League East division. A playoff berth in 2020 has amped the young team up for a run at a deeper playoff run in 2021. With additions still to be made, the improvements will add to the young and heavy-hitting Blue Jays, we’ve seen the last couple of seasons.
Toronto is still a couple of pieces away from being the dominant team that we all wish and hope for them to be, however, the addition of a solid arm that can take the number two spot behind Ryu would be a big boost to making that a fact. Add an infielder to help fill the void at third base and the Blue Jays will have a versatile lineup ready to compete for years to come. Toronto Blue Jays are on the rise in the American League.
