UFC Fight Night – Matt Brown vs Carlos Condit Preview

The time is nearly upon us for the first UFC event of 2021. January 16th, 2021 sees UFC Fight Night headlined by Max Holloway vs Calvin Kattar. The main event isn’t the only mouth-watering matchup on the card as we will also finally be getting to see Matt Brown vs Carlos Condit. A fight that fans will be hoping is 3rd time lucky as it has been canceled on two previous occasions.

Third Time Is The Charm

So as previously stated, both of these men have been eager to step inside the octagon together. But to no avail, the first time the fight was made was way back in 2013. The match was canceled due to a back injury that Matt Brown suffered. The match was then re-booked in 2018, and at this time, it’s an ACL injury that kept Brown unable to fight. Many fans felt this fight may never happen like a Khabib vs Ferguson curse was cast on this matchup. But finally, the planets have aligned and on January 16th UFC Fight Night, we will finally get to see, Matt Brown vs Carlos Condit.

Matt Brown

“The Immortal” Matt Brown has been a well-respected contender since we first saw him as part of Team Griffin on UFC The Ultimate Fighter Season 7 way back in 2008. With a UFC record of (17-12), you always know what you are in for with a Matt Brown fight; an absolute war. Matt Brown owns notable wins over the likes of James Wilks, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, and Diego Sanchez.

Brown has never shied away from a challenge, taking on some of the toughest guys in the division names like Robbie Lawler, Johnny Hendricks, Demian Maia, and Donald Cerrone. Brown has stepped in with some of the biggest names in the sport.

Carlos Condit

The man known as “The Natural Born Killer” has been treated with shocking levels of disrespect in recent years. After a slump of form having lost 5 on the bounce, people forgot about how good Carlos Condit really was. After a successful spell in WEC, Condit amassed a (5-1) record to start his UFC career; with notable wins over Rory Mcdonald, Dan Hardy, and Nick Diaz. Although he was subjective to back-to-back defeats against Georges St Pierre and Johnny Hendricks, he returned to winning ways taking out Martin Kampmann in the 4th getting revenge for his UFC debut loss.

Then came the slump that I previously mentioned, where Condit’s results tallied (2-6). However, amidst the slump, what must be mentioned was the level of competition that he faced. He faced top-level opponents in the likes of Tyron Woodley, Robbie Lawler, and Demian Maia, names in common with the upcoming opponent.

Matt Brown vs Carlos Condit Breakdown

The short version is that this will be a win for the fans. Both these men leave it all in the octagon and I expect no different from this fight. Both men have faced similar opposition and have wanted this fight for over 10 years. Also with presumably both fighter’s best years behind them, neither are going to want to come away without the win. For me, Condit has the footwork and combinations advantage, whereas I give Brown the clinical killer instinct level striking advantage.

If Carlos Condit can use his movement to avoid the deadly ‘Hellbows’ of Matt Brown, it could be a long night for the Immortal. But the question is, does Condit still have the ability to weather the storm of pressure that Brown will bring?

Prediction: Matt Brown 3rd round Win Matt Brown vs Carlos Condit
