In MLB breaking news, top closer Liam Hendriks has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Chicago White Sox. According to sources, the deal is a three-year deal for a total of $54,000,000. It would be the highest average annual value ever given to a reliever.
Hendriks, who will be 32 on Opening Day, was the most sought after reliever on the market this offseason. He pitched in the playoffs in 2020 with the A’s and sent the White Sox home by shutting them down in games two and three. He has been excellent in his career in the postseason.
MLB Breaking News: Immediate Impact
One of the biggest needs for the White Sox this offseason has been the need for a closer. Alex Colome held down the job in 2019 and 2020 and performed well. He reportedly had been on the White Sox radar to return. However, the signing of Hendriks will end the Colome tenure on the South Side.
Hendriks immediately becomes the closer of a team that went 35-25 and qualified for the AL playoffs in 2020. He headlines a bullpen that includes some stellar arms, including Aaron Bummer, Codi Heuer, Evan Marshall, Matt Foster, and perhaps young fireballer Garrett Crochet.
The impact on the White Sox cannot be overstated. While Colome performed well, Hendriks is viewed by many as the premier closer in all of baseball. This MLB breaking news will almost surely vault the Sox past the Twins as frontrunners in the AL Central. This is huge, Sox fans, your White Sox are in the same headline as MLB Breaking News!
White Sox Offseason: Are They Done?
This is a great question, as fans still want to see a backup catcher and perhaps another starting pitcher added to the roster. It is also a fair question and one that may or may not be answered soon. The Sox have now made three major additions, the others being pitcher Lance Lynn and right fielder Adam Eaton.
Only time will tell on that one, though, as fans will have to be satisfied with this huge signing for the moment. Even without any more additions, the White Sox have taken a huge step forward in their quest to achieve postseason glory.
The Hendriks signing is a game-changer, signaling to fans just how serious management is about winning a World Series or two. Still, fans are wondering if they will see their White Sox in more MLB breaking news. Time will tell, but for now, White Sox fans should be in seventh heaven.
