How Bruno Fernandes Equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s Premier League Record
Bruno Fernandes on fire
Cristiano Ronaldo won four player of the months during a period of six seasons while it took Bruno Fernandes just seven months to attain a similar feat.
Manchester United have relied on the incredible performances of the Portuguese playmaker since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January, 2020. After his first full month in the Premier League, he was named Player of the Month in February.
Football was paused as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak for months, when football returned, Bruno Fernandes continued his fine form as he scooped another Player of the month award in June. He won the award twice in November and December following sensational displays for the Red Devils.
Furthermore, his enormous contributions to the team has guided Manchester United to the top of the table for the first time since 2013.
At this point in time, only five players have won the the award more times than him. Wayne Rooney has five, Robin Van Persie has five, Steven Gerrard and Harry Kane have won it six times and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero has been a recipient of the award on seven occasions.
However, Premier League legends Paul Scholes, Alan Shearer and Frank Lampard have four Player of the Month awards to their names and Bruno Fernandes needs three more awards to equal Sergio Aguero’s records. He has a high tendency to write his name into folklore with the kind of quality football he plays on every match day.
