Max Holloway – Best Is Blessed

Max Holloway made his return to the cage last night after a few months off following the disappointing loss to Alex Volkanovski. After the two closely contested match-ups, Holloway was looking to bounce back with a win. He did that, emphatically. Absolutely smashing his opponent, Calvin Kattar. Kattar, a brilliant boxer, was drowned by the volume and technical striking of the Hawaiian. Whilst it’s not a new thing, the style points he gets for the performance is almost reminiscent of Anderson Silva

The fight started similar to the Volkanovski fight, fast and frantic, with Max throwing combinations left, right, and centre. With Kattar being a slow starter, like Max Holloway, we expected to see more action come the 3rd or 4th round. That happened, but not how we expected it. Max unleashed a barrage of punches and elbows in the third, drowning Kattar. He made it back to his corner and took the beating of a lifetime in the next round. He was hurt bad by a step-in elbow from Holloway, then absorbed what seemed like a 90 punch combo.

Personally I think the fight should have been stopped in the fourth round. The Spencer Fisher story is way too recently and should have had us all on guard. Nobody needs to take that much punishment before someone steps in, let the fighter live to see another day. Unfortunately it looked although Kattar was too tough for his own good. Whilst throwing a few back, the New England Cartel member was struggling to even stand straight.

The fifth round came and Max Holloway was styling on Kattar. Looking away, talking to the commentators whilst avoiding a 5 punch combination. Incredible.

All in all, it was a special performance from Max, and surely one that is derserving of a title shot after the Volkanovski vs Ortega match-up.
