2021 Blue Jays: Kirby Yates Close to Finalizing a Deal

The Toronto Blue Jays are entertaining pitcher Kirby Yates at their practice facilities in Dunedin, Florida. The right-handed pitcher underwent surgery in 2019 to remove bone chips from his elbow. Reports have surfaced stating mutual interest from both sides and a deal is close to being finalized.

The Toronto Blue Jays could use another experienced arm in their rotation, at 34-years of age Kirby Yates would be a welcomed addition to the lineup in 2021, if the Blue Jays can get a deal done. Kirby Yates struggled in 2020, pitching in six games with an 0-5 record and a 12.46 ERA.

Toronto hopes to get the Kirby Yates from 2018 and 2019. In 2018, Yates was lights out for the San Diego Padres finishing with a 5-3 record and a 2.14 ERA. In 2019 the record was not the most appealing however, the 41 saves and a 1.19 ERA in 60 games was definitely something to be excited about.

In seven MLB Seasons Yates has spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, and spent the last four seasons with the San Diego Padres. In those seven seasons, he has a 12-17 record and a 4.40 ERA.
