The Houston Rockets acquire Kevin Porter Jr. from the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Shams Charania of the Athletic.

The deal set in place would send Kevin Porter Jr. to the Houston Rockets in return for a future top 55 protected second round pick.

The Cavaliers organization reportedly kept Kevin Porter Jr. away from the organization to start the 2020-2021 season after his various mix-ups with the law in the offseason. However, his recent incident with the organization was considered to most, his last straw, initiating the trading process.

The former first round pick put up promising numbers in his rookie season.

2019-2020 Rookie Season

  • 10.0 PPG
  • 3.2 RPG
  • 2.2 APG
  • 33.5 3P%
  • 44.2 FG%

The Rockets organization is hopeful that longtime player development coach John Lucas can make a positive impact in Kevin Porter Jr.’s career moving forward. Considering the fact that Rafael Stone only had to give up a protected second round pick, the acquisition of Kevin Porter Jr. is very “low risk-high reward.”

The Houston Rockets will be releasing an injured Chris Clemons (Achilles Tendon) in order to create a roster spot for the newly acquired Kevin Porter Jr.
