After weeks of turmoil between Pierre-Luc Dubois and the Columbus Blue Jackets, the trade finally happened. Dubois has been traded to the Winnipeg Jets, alongside a third-round draft pick in 2022, for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic. It’s a massive trade for both teams, who departed with the face of their franchise.
Blockbuster Trade: Pierre-Luc Dubois, Patrik Laine Swapped
With the past few days of escalations, it was obvious to everyone that Pierre-Luc Dubois needed to leave the Blue Jackets since the relationship between him and the coaching staff and Head Coach John Tortorella had turned sour. Dubois has not played well at all, and during the last game of his Blue Jackets career, he only played four minutes in the first period, before he was benched for the rest of the game.
Now with the Jets, Pierre-Luc Dubois is going to slot in nicely in the top six down the middle, helping their strong wingers like Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor, either on the first or second line. When he is on his game, Dubois is one of the best centers in the league, and the center depth has been a struggle for the Jets and Dubois should help that.
However, acquiring Pierre-Luc Dubois came at a hefty price, with Patrik Laine as the key piece of the deal. The finish sniper had spoken about a desire for trade throughout the offseason, and it seemed destined that he could be leaving at some point in the season. With the Blue Jackets, the hope is that the former second overall pick can bring a scoring touch to the Blue Jackets who needed it through the start of the season.

The second player going from the Jets to the Blue Jackets is Roslovic, who is a talented forward from Columbus, Ohio. Going back to his hometown this could be a very interesting reunion, that might give him the chance to crack the top six. Something he was unable to do in Winnipeg, due to their strong depth in that position.
