As a 3x Bellator Lightweight champion, it wouldn’t be the first Michael Chandler title shot the world has seen. Entering the cage at UFC 257 across the ring from Dan Hooker, many said that Chandler could succumb to the same twisted fate of so many others on their UFC debut; that the nerves, or whatever else could cause a bad performance.
Yet, that wasn’t to be the case. As a giant Dan Hooker fan it hurts to say, but Michael Chandler absolutely smoked him in just 2 and a half minutes. Coming in with a shot to the body, and a devastating follow up shot to the head, it put “The Hangman” down, and Chandler finished the fight with a flurry of strikes on the ground. Cementing his status, as a new UFC star. Leaving many with a question: Will a Michael Chandler title shot take place in 2021?
Michael Chandler Title Shot, Shot Down by Poirier!
Dana White loved the idea of Poirier vs Chandler.. Michael did as well. Along with fans around the world. “The Diamond” had other ideas though. Speaking at the post-fight press conference he went on to say that Michael Chandler hadn’t done enough to deserve that fight yet. When MMA Junkie rep. John Morgan asked if the title fight with Chandler “made sense” Poirier replied with:
“No, it does not. Respect to Chandler… but to come in and beat a guy I just beat, to get a title shot? Dude I’ve been in, what is this? 27-28 fights in the octagon… he should fight Charles Oliveira or something… that (the Chandler fight) doesn’t really interest me at this point, I’m going to go sell hot sauce if that’s the case”

So, it seems as if the title shot will have to be earned even further! Stay posted MMA fans, this division is indeed chaotic right now. We truly have no idea what can happen!
