2021 Blue Jays: Marcus Semien Headed to Toronto

Marcus Semien, now 30-years old has spent eight seasons in MLB, six of those seasons with the Oakland Athletics. The Blue Jays have been shopping for an everyday third baseman but have acquired the infielder for 1 season.

The third-place finisher in MVP voting from 2019, finished 2020 with a .223 batting average, including seven home runs in 47 hits for Oakland. In eight seasons, Marcus Semien has tallied 830 hits, 115 home runs, with a .254 batting average.

Semien Postseason Numbers

The one very intriguing aspect of Marcus Semien’s game is his impressive numbers in the postseason. He has an impressive .371 batting average which includes 13 hits, two home runs, and a .450 on-base percentage. These stats alone will be crucial for the Blue Jays as they look to be annual playoff contenders.

With the newest addition for the Toronto Blue Jays manager, Charlie Montoyo will have an abundance of options when deciding his lineup. Adding Semien will likely move Cavan Biggio or Bo Bichette to third base. The Blue Jays have players that can move around on the defensive side of the ball and now have some added power at the plate.
