Latest MLB News: Souza Jr. Hoping to Stay Healthy
Steven Souza Jr. will battle in spring training with hopes of taking over some of the duties vacated by former Astros outfielder George Springer, Springer recently signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in free agency.
Souza Jr. appeared in 11 games for the Cubs in 2020, finishing the year with just four hits, one home run, five RBIs, and a .148 batting average in 31 trips to the plate.
Steven Souza Jr. has played with four teams in six seasons, teams include the Washington Nationals, Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks, and most recently the Chicago Cubs. In 2019, Souza Jr. signed a $4.125 million contract with Arizona for one season. He missed 186 days that year with a knee injury resulting in his release at the end of the season.
In 2020, he attempted the comeback from his knee injury with a $1 million contract with the Chicago Cubs, he missed 16 days with a hamstring injury and only appeared in 11 games.
Steven Souza Jr. will attempt to return and find a spot on the Houston Astros for the 2021 season, uncertain if it will be a success but the optimism is in the air and the Astros hope he can be serviceable for the season.
