Another edition of the Overtime Heroics: Cheap Seats Chatter Podcast is live now on Spotify. This edition features writers Mathias Altman-Kurosaki and Alex Clark as they discuss some of the hottest topics in sports.
Cheap Seats Chatter: Moves and Hall of Fame Results
The first topic today for Cheap Seats Chatter talks about one of the biggest trades of the offseason. St. Louis added a superstar recently as they pull off the blockbuster trade of the offseason. Nolan Arenado joined the Cardinals after the Rockies traded him and $50 million of his salary, for five prospects from the Cardinals organization. MAK and Alex are in agreement on this trade and still wonder what was said in order to make this trade happen. The two also discuss how the two National League divisions are affected by this massive trade.
Philadelphia has made a number of big moves including the resigning of shortstop Didi Gregorius and bringing back catcher J.T. Realmuto. While on paper the moves look to strengthen the team, Alex and MAK discuss how these moves do not mean a whole lot for the Phillies. These moves do strengthen the team, but they are pieces that were on the team last year where they finished the season in third in a competitive NL East. Other teams in the East have made moves to improve their teams, while the Phillies are making moves to stay at their same level.
The last topic on the docket for this episode of Cheap Seats Chatter is the Hall-of-Fame. Alex and MAK talk about the 2021 Hall of Fame election resulting in no new members being inducted for the ninth time in Hall of Fame history. Both being writers, the two discuss what it means to see fellow writers use their ballots to vote for few people or for no one to make it in.
