In the latest MLB news, the Boston Red Sox have agreed to terms with Marwin Gonzalez on a one-year deal. The deal also includes incentives that could reach one-million USD.

Latest MLB News: Marwin Gonzalez Headed to Boston

Marwin Gonzalez, now 31-years old has spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Twins after playing seven seasons with the Houston Astros. Last season the utility fielder played 53 games and finished with a .211 batting average, hitting five long balls and 37 hits. His batting average was the lowest of his career to date.

The newest Boston Red Sox has been consistent and reliable, evident with his play in his last four seasons. Marwin Gonzalez had over one hundred hits in each season, and his lowest batting average during those years was a .247 in 2018 when he was with the Astros.

Latest MLB News: Red Sox Acquire More Than a Utility Fielder

The Boston Red Sox had competition while trying to complete the deal for Marwin Gonzalez. Multiple reports had the Toronto Blue Jays in the mix for his services as well. The Red Sox also acquire a utility player that will also bring experience and leadership. Gonzalez was a member of the Houston Astros, the 2017 World Series Champions.

Marwin Gonzalez has a career .261 batting average, including 96 home runs in 799 hits, he’s also racked up 369 RBI’s in his nine seasons. A veteran player who’s spent most of his career in the American League division will now become another weapon for the Boston Red Sox in 2021.
