Cheap Seats Chatter: Offseason Moves and Mets Predictions

Trevor Bauer was the talk of the offseason and the lead-off topic for today’s show. 2021’s top free agent finally made his decision as he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-year deal worth over $100 million. Los Angeles adds the 2020 AL Cy Young award winner to an already stacked rotation.

The discussion mainly stays around if the deal was worth it, with how strong the Dodgers rotation already is, and if Bauer can repeat the performance from the shortened 2020 season. With the addition, this nearly solidifies the Dodgers as having the best rotation in all of baseball – at least on paper.

One of Seattle’s biggest needs is relief pitching. They addressed that need by signing former Toronto Blue Jay Ken Giles. As a Mariner fan, Alex brought up how this move can help the bullpen which was one of the worst statistically in all of baseball in 2020 by giving the team their first reliable closer since Edwin Diaz.

Giles does have to miss the 2021 season due to Tommy John surgery, but the group discusses how this could be a good thing as he comes to the bullpen when Seattle expects their postseason window to start.

This episode of cheap seats chatter also brought up a few other signings. These included Marcel Ozuna resigning with Atlanta, Eddie Rosario signing with Cleveland, Andrew Benintendi traded to Kansas City and Jake Arrieta returning to the Cubs.

The Mets have been one of the biggest players so far this offseason and the group doesn’t think they are done quite yet. MAK, a Mets fan, breaks down what are the holes the team needs to fill before the season should start.

To close out the show, everyone pays a bit of tribute to Dustin Pedroia who announced his retirement. Each member talked about what Pedroia meant to the game of baseball itself and to the people as fans. Each shared their own memories of Pedroia and wished him a happy retirement.
