Katlyn Chookagian vs Viviane Araujo would surely be a tremendous fight, and per MMA Fighting this is something that is in the works for an upcoming UFC Card on May 15th:
“Multiple people with knowledge of the matchup confirmed to MMA Fighting on Wednesday that verbal agreements are in place for the fight, though contracts have not been issued or signed at this time. ESPN initially reported the contest”
Chookagian vs Araujo: A Strikers Delight
Katlyn Chookagian (15-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) aka “The Blond Fighter” is one of the most fearsome strikers in the women’s 125 lbs division. A former title challenger with wins over names like Cynthia Calvillo (UFC 255), Jennifer Maia (UFC 244), and Joanne Calderwood (UFC 238), Chookagian vs Araujo will just be yet another great fight to go on the resume. Assuming it comes to fruition, as the fight has still yet to be signed.
3-2 out of her last 5 fights, Chookagian last suffered a loss at the hands of another fearsome striker against Jessica Andrade at UFC Fight Island 6. Andrade ended the fight with a flurry of strikes five seconds before the first round was over to get the TKO victory, after a punch to the body hurt “The Blond Fighter”.
Viviane Araujo (10-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has had a short road in the UFC along the way to Chookagian vs Araujo. With her only UFC loss at the hands of top-tier talent in former title-challenger Jessica Eye at UFC 245, via decision; “Vivi” has looked like an impressive prospect. It is worth noting that Eye missed weight for that matchup, coming in at 131 lbs. Five pounds over the 126 lbs Flyweight weight limit.
Chookagian vs Araujo is a very intriguing matchup for the Flyweight division title picture. With Araujo coming into the battle on a two-fight winning streak, and Chookagian ranked at #2 in the division coming off a win over Calvillo. One would have to figure that this is a play by the matchmakers to introduce some fresh blood into the top 5, in addition to names like Jessica Andrade who entered the division with a bang with her win over Chookagian.
