MLB Breaking News: Earlier today Philadelphia Phillies Catcher J.T Realmuto suffer a broken thumb. The injury was sustained on his throwing hand. Realmuto is expected to miss a month but should be ready for the Phillies’ Opening Day matchup on April 1st. ESPN’s baseball Insider Jeff Passan broke the news this morning.
The injury comes after the Phillies signed Realmuto to a five-year 115 million contract. Realmuto has been a big help for the Phillies on both sides of the Ball. Realmuto’s absence is going to affect the Phillies on both sides of the ball last season. Offensively Realmuto batted .266 and had 46 hits 11 home runs and 32 RBIs. Although Realmuto was not expected to play a ton during spring training, his absence is definitely going to have an impact on the team during spring training. This is not the first time Realmuto has battled an injury. Last season, Realmuto had some hip flexor issues and missed multiple games towards the end of the season.
MLB Breaking News: Injury timeline and Final Thoughts
As of right now, the number of games that Realmuto will miss is up in the air. It will be interesting to see when Realmuto will return and how his relationship will work with the new pitchers that the Phillies have signed over the course of the offseason.
