Ranked Heavyweights Shamil Abdurakhimov and Augusto Sakai Meet at UFC Fight Night 191 on May 1

UFC Fight Night 191 Adds Heavyweight Bout Between Shamil Abdurakhimov and Augusto Sakai

#8 ranked Shamil Abdurakhimov (20-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) has become the gatekeeper of the heavyweight division. The Dagestani native’s last two defeats have come at the hands of Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes who are both in title discussion. His last outing was against the latter, in which he lost via TKO in the first round. That loss snapped a three-fight winning streak which included victories over Marcin Tybura, Andrei Arlovski, and Chase Sherman.

#9 ranked Augusto Sakai (15-2-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) saw mixed results in 2020 earning one victory and suffering one defeat. In May, the Brazilian fought to a split decision with the gritty Blagoy Ivanov. The victory brought his consecutive wins within the promotion to four which earned him a shot at Alistair Overeem. After four hard-fought rounds, the former kickboxer was too much for Sakai and he lost in the fifth round. He looks to rebound from his first-ever stoppage defeat.

It is not known where the fight between Shamil Abdurakhimov and Augusto Sakai will fall on the card, but it will certainly be one to watch!
