Colorado Buffaloes Five Best Recruits in 2021

All of Colorado"s recruits are three stars, but out of all the 18 recruits, there are five that separate themselves. Remember, not all three-star recruits are on the same level. K.D. Nixon, Liviska Shenault Jr, and Nate Landman were all three-star recruits who turned out to be CU studs.

#1 | Trustin Oliver | 6-4 | 215 | S | Iowa Western C.C

Oliver is the best recruit to come to CU this Fall. He is a Community College recruit but he is ranked first in his position and fourth in the state of Iowa. Since he is a JUCO, he will be the recruit that is the readiest to make an impact immediately. He is quick and very agile and also does a lot of punt returns which make him more valuable. Even though it says that he is a safety, he has also played corner and breaks on the ball well. The last thing I saw in his highlights is that he likes to attack the ball at its highest point. This kid can help the Colorado Buffaloes defense right away.

#2 | Erik Olsen | 6-5 | 230 | TE | Littleton, CO

Olsen is a big kid that if you get the ball to, he will be hard to take down. He is ranked 420th nationally, 17th for all tight ends, and fourth in the state of CO. Olsen is the real deal coming out of high school. He has good size and can win the matchup battle with smaller linebackers. He shows good hands and quickness after the catch. Olsen also isn"t afraid to lower his shoulder and get a couple more yards after contact, either. This may end up as the best recruit of the Colorado Buffaloes entire 2021 class if he can live up to his potential.

#3 | Tyas Martin | 6-4 | 318 | DT | Jacksonville, AR

Tyas Martin is the 45th ranked defensive tackle in the country and the fourth-best recruit in Arizona. The 318-pound defensive lineman is huge for his size. The one thing that is worrisome for Colorado Buffaloes fans is his injury history. Martin missed the 2020 season because of a back injury but this kid has the size and the ability to be a star in college. The only thing he needs now is to be able to stay on the field.

#4 | Chase Penry | 6-1 | 185 | WR | Englewood | CO

At number four is another kid from Colorado. Chase Penry is a smart kid, as evidenced by his having offers from Penn, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Princeton, and Columbia. Penry does a good job attacking the ball and making hard catches look easy. The Buffaloes have a good receiving corps, but I can see Penry making some noise due to his ability to catch in traffic because he is a more than reliable route runner.

#5 Drew Carter | 6-3 | 195 | DUAL | Portland, OR

Drew Carter is a dual-threat QB. He is ranked 5th in the state of Oregon and 30th. In 2019 he went 10-1 with 2,767 yards, 23 TD"s, and two interceptions. He also had a career varsity record of 30-5. Carter looks like he can hit the deep balls all while hurting defenses with his feet. Colorado used Sam Noyer as a dual-threat QB in 2020 so Carter would fit in the scheme well. It will be nice to have some competition at QB again for CU, with Brendon Lewis being another quarterback that can hurt defenses through the air and on the ground. It is starting to look like the Colorado Buffaloes are getting some decent players that can compete in the Pac 12.

So from the look of it, the rest of the Buffaloes" recruits are still impressive and can make an impact on the team in the future. One of the best things about the 2021 class is that there are three “athletes" without a position that they can put into a few different spots. It will be interesting to see how each player pans out and who will rise

Colorado Buffaloes: Overall Review

Overall, the Buffaloes have a decent recruiting class. Karl Dorrell‘s first-class at Colorado has plenty of three stars and multiple players that can make plays. Only time will tell how the players develop, so for now, we sit back and watch it unfold. We will come back to this class next year and the year after to look and see if Dorrell found some diamonds in the rough, or if he only ends up with coal.
