Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno is set to go down for Figueiredo’s UFC flyweight title in a rematch on June 12th. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was the first to break the news of the rematch.
In what was a Fight of the Year contender at UFC 256, the two fought to a draw as Figueiredo kept his belt following a five-round war with “The Assassin Baby”. “The God of War” had defended his belt in spectacular fashion three weeks prior as he submitted Alex Perez at UFC 255 in the first round.
Figueiredo was a contender for “UFC Fighter of the Year” having won and defended his belt twice in what was a career-defining year for the 33-year-old.
Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno 2
Deiveson Figueiredo (20-1-1, 9-1-1 UFC) had originally defeated Joseph Benavidez in a flyweight title fight in February 2020 via a second-round TKO yet was unable to win the title as he missed weight. Therefore, a rematch was scheduled and this time the Brazilian made weight. He defeated the American once more, only this time in a more devastating fashion via first-round submission.
Figueiredo would defend his belt for the first time against Perez at UFC 255 as he submitted the Dana White’s Contender Series’ alumni.
Brandon Moreno (18-5-2, 6-2-2) earned his first shot at the UFC flyweight title in the prelims headliner of that card having beaten Brandon Royval via TKO. This impressed and convinced Dana White to ensure Figueiredo stayed in Las Vegas for the Brazilian to defend his belt once more three weeks later against number one contender Moreno.
Living up to his nickname “God of War”, Figueiredo would defend his belt against the dangerous Moreno in a main event five-round war. Two of the judges scored the bout as a draw (47-47) while one in the champion’s favor (48-46). It is also important to note that Figueiredo was actually deducted a point in the third round for a low blow.
The two will now run it back with hopes of producing another spectacular showcase for the flyweight division with a clear winner the favored outcome for the fans this time around.
Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno 2 is now confirmed for June 12th and is expected to take place at UFC 263. There are currently no other fights scheduled for the date and the location will be announced in the near future.
