The Boston Bruins made a notable acquisition via waivers on February 27th, 2021. They claimed Jarred Tinordi off of waivers from the Nashville Predators. The veteran defenseman has played in parts of six different seasons in the NHL. He has played for the Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, and Nashville Predators in his career. Jarred Tinordi is a former first-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens, but he never lived up to the hype he had ahead of the 2010 NHL draft. Nevertheless, Jarred Tinordi will be a serviceable depth defenseman for the Boston Bruins.

Career Overview of Jarred Tinordi

The new Bruins defenseman started gaining some hype after being captain for the OHL London Knights during the 2011-12 season. In 48 games, Jarred Tinordi scored two goals and added 14 assists. He also was an assistant captain for the United States under 20 team at the World Juniors tournament. In six games, Jarred Tinordi scored one goal and assisted on another.

During the 2011-12 season, his play was good enough for Jarred Tinordi to earn some playing time with the Montreal Canadiens the following season. In his rookie season, he played eight games in the NHL. He only managed to get two points, both of which were assists. Jarred Tinordi spent parts of three more seasons for the Canadiens. In his entire playing career with the Canadiens, he played 46 games scoring no goals, but he did have six assists.

He was then traded to the Arizona Coyotes during the 2015-16 season in the infamous John Scott trade. John Scott went on to be voted into the NHL all-star game and proceeded to win MVP of the game. It was a hilarious ending for the fans but an annoying ending for the NHL as they didn’t want Scott to be in the prestigious game. The trade didn’t pay off for either team as Jarred Tinordi only played seven games for the Coyotes. He didn’t have any points in his short stint with Arizona.

After the 2015-16 season, Jarred Tinordi spent three seasons in the AHL, including one with the Milwaukee Admirals. His leadership skills were on display once again as he was named the captain during the 2018-19 season.

The Milwaukee Admirals happen to be the Nashville Predators AHL affiliate, and in the 2019-20 season, Tinordi split his season between the two teams. With the Admirals, he played 32 games. He assisted on six goals. Earning a promotion to the NHL, Jarred Tinordi played in 28 games for the Nashville Predators.

During the 2019-20 season, TInordi scored one goal and assisted on four other goals during the 28 games. Jarred Tinordi continued playing in the NHL for the Predators in the 2021 seasons. Thus far, Tinordi has participated in seven games and has not put any puts on the board.

What Does Jarred Tinordi Bring To the Boston Bruins?

The six feet six inches, the defenseman is an intimidating force on the ice. He has thrown 181 hits in his career. Jarred Tinordi also is a serviceable defenseman that has put his shot-blocking skills on display. He has blocked 109 shots in his 88 career games.

With the Boston Bruins, Tinordi will most likely play in a depth defenseman role while Matt Grzelcyk, Jeremy Lauzon, and Kevan Miller all battle injuries. Once they return from their injuries, Tinordi will most likely find himself on the Boston Bruins taxi squad or in the AHL with the Providence Bruins. Hopefully, Jarred Tinordi plays some great hockey with the Boston Bruins and can help the Bruins get back in the win column.
