Undefeated prospect Usman Nurmagomedov is to make his promotional debut against Mike Hamel at Bellator 255 on April 2nd as announced by Bellator president Scott Coker. The Dagestani fighter is the cousin of UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and was signed to Bellator on a multi-fight deal back in October.
Usman Nurmagomedov To Make Bellator Debut Versus Mike Hamel
Nurmagomedov has fought in a variety of organizations including GFC, Brave CF, and UAE Warriors. He remains undefeated (11-0) as a fighter, having won seven fights via KO/TKO and three by submission since making his professional debut in March 2017.
He will face Mike Hamel, who will be making his second appearance in the promotion having lost on his Bellator debut in a spilt-decision defeat to Adam Borics. The American is 7-4 as a professional fighter and trains out of MMA Lab in Phoenix, Arizona.
Nurmagomedov was taught by Khabib’s late father Abdulmanap in Dagestan alongside the UFC star. He now trains at American Kickboxing Academy out in San Jose, California, where head coach Javier Mendez heaped on the praise for the prospect.
“He can do it all. He needs seasoning, he needs experience and mental (strength), but he is by far the most talented and gifted fighter I’ve ever had.” Mendez told RT.
Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz has also commended the Russian. He told Asian MMA “I’m telling you, he is actually a better version than Khabib. He is better than Khabib. I’m telling you, people should watch for him. He’s an absolute killer.”
Featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull is set to headline Bellator 255 as he takes on Emmanuel Sanchez in the ongoing Grand Prix.
The full-lineup of Bellator 255 is yet to be announced, although Usman Nurmagomedov vs Mike Hamel will take place in the lightweight division on the main card. The Bellator 255 lineup as it stands includes:
