Felipe Colares and Journey Newson Sign Up for UFC Fight Night 190

A bantamweight bout between Felipe Colares and Journey Newson has been given the green light for UFC Fight Night 190. Tudo Sobre MMA first reported the fight and later both fighters confirmed the bout on social media. The main event for the card has been decided, with Dominick Reyes taking on Jiri Prochazka, a fight we planned to see in February before their fight was postponed. This card will be going down on May 1.

Felipe Colares and Journey Newson Added To Fight Night 190

Felipe “Cabocao” Colares (9-2, 1-2 UFC) will be gunning to impress against Newson, after losing two of his three fights in his UFC career.

The 26-year-old was found in the Brazilian promotion Jungle Fight back in 2017, where he held a record of 8-0 at the time of his UFC signing. A disaster start for Colares in the featherweight division, losing his first fight to Geraldo de Freitas Jr. at UFC Fight Night 144.

A change of division was made by Colares as he stepped up to bantamweight. A wise decision with the Brazilian defeating Domingo Pilarte via split decision. Colares will face Newson coming off a defeat, after losing his last bout to Montel Jackson back in January 2020.

Journey Newson (9-3-0 1 NC, 0-2 1 NC UFC) is on a similar path to Colares after having a torrid start to his UFC career.

The American faced Ricardo Ramos in June 2019 for the first bout of his UFC journey. The judges awarded Ramos the victory unanimously. Newson put on a show in his second bout after knocking out Pilarte in just 38 seconds. Journey’s victory was overturned to a no-contest after the failure of a drug test.

Newson faced a $5,000 fine, with a 90-day suspension. At UFC Vegas 11, he made his return against prospect Randy Costa. Newson was knocked out by a stunning head-kick inside 41 seconds.

Their UFC contracts could be on the line in this one, with both starting poorly, the loser of this matchup could be fighting their last bout in the UFC.

With Felipe Colares and Journey Newson being added to Fight Night 190, it is not clear where the fighters will land on the card. The main event has been decided between Reyes and Prochazka; no other fight has been given a position on the card. The bouts scheduled for the event are:
