UFC Fighter Showcase: Uros Medic

After the monumental event that was UFC 259, we got to see one of the stars that the light shined the brightest on, Serbia’s own Uros Medic. The prelims of this past Saturday night’s card had some of the most exciting and explosive performances we have ever seen on an early prelim/prelim card.

We can be sure that if Medic continues his winning ways, we’ll see him on the main card and maybe even main eventing within the next year or two. Let’s take a look at “The Doctors” professional career and see what’s next for the surging lightweight.

A Perfect Career So Far

One of the hardest things to do in mixed martial arts is to stay undefeated, anything from 5-0 to 29-0 is a huge achievement and Uros Medic is still going strong since his 2016 debut with a record of 7-0. If that wasn’t impressive enough, he has also never seen the judges scorecards as he has finished every single bout he has competed in, in fact, he has only ever had to return to his corner between rounds on one occasion. So, it’s safe to say that Medic is a finishing machine.

His 100% finish rate is just as impressive as his performance before the referee calls the fight. In his most recent performance against fellow Dana White Contender Series contract winner Aalon Cruz, he showed a perfect balance of patience and pressure. He waited for his opportunity and shot like a sniper. He then did not give up in banging away at his opponent’s skull until the ref was forced to call a stoppage, although it could have been finished much much earlier.

What Makes Uros Medic So Special?

Well, being one of two Serbian stars in the UFC, alongside Aleksander Rakić, Uros Medic prides himself in becoming the first Serbian champion in UFC history. not only is this background unique to see in such a large organization, but his personality is already shaping to be one of the most entertaining ones on the whole roster. After speaking to Joe Rogan after his UFC 259 TKO victory he kept telling Rogan how happy he was to have the opportunity to talk with him, he also wished for them to be able to do a podcast episode together and signed the interview off with this “Train by day, Joe Rogan podcast by night all day baby!”.

What’s Next For Uros Medic

Uros Medic has now established himself as worthy in the world’s top combat sports promotion. From here on out, he will be looking to get to the division’s elite and that could start with anyone. But he needs at least two more fights before being granted a ranked opponent. So that poses the question, who’s next? There are lots of possibilities for “The Doctor” going into his next bout. But these two experienced guys at lightweight are definitely his best chance to become ranked in no time. and after a flawless performance this past weekend, we can be sure to see him back in the octagon in no time.

Drew Dober who is coming off of a loss to Islam Makhachev will be looking to rebound and what better way to try than against probably the biggest unranked prospect in the promotion. You also have Renato Moicano who has just suffered a TKO loss at the hands of Rafael Fiziev and is also looking to make a statement at 155lbs. Uros Medic has all the skills to be a champion and we could even see him competing in a title match within the next 3 years, that is if the division’s title picture is still sorted out.
