Will Fuller V enters the market as one of the more enthralling players in the 2021 NFL free agency class. For starters, he is fresh off a career-year as the Houston Texans‘ WR1 following DeAndre Hopkins‘ trade to the Arizona Cardinals. Fuller finished with 53 receptions for 879 yards, eight touchdowns, and 16.6 average yards/catch. Fuller did this in just 11 games as well, as he was suspended for the last five games for violating league policy on PEDs.

Secondly, Houston is an active battleground between players and the front office. DE JJ Watt left to join Hopkins in the desert while franchise QB Deshaun Watson is trying to leave. Under different circumstances, Fuller would ideally be staying in Houston as the top receiver. Instead, any stars the team may have are being run out of town. Now, this speedster with a risky injury-prone past is hitting the 2021 NFL free agency market as a potential sleeper.

What Teams Get From Will Fuller

Contract

This will be Fuller’s second contract after playing on his fifth-year option from his rookie deal. His projected market value sits around $15-16 million per year and could earn a deal of 5 years, $87.5 million. Compared to some other WRs in the 2021 NFL free agency, Fuller is averaged as about the fifth-most expensive available receiver at this moment.

Skillset

Fuller was the fastest WR from the 2016 draft class with a 4.32 40-yard dash. His speed and yards after the catch make him such a hot commodity to teams looking for a deep threat who can also be a great route-runner and playmaker. At just 26 years old, someone could grab a future cornerstone of their offense.

Risks

The major red flag on Fuller is that he hasn’t been able to play a full 16-game season. As a rookie, he played a career-high 14 games in the regular season after dealing with lingering hamstring issues. In 2017, he suffered a broken collarbone and missed the first quarter of the season. He ended his 2018 season early with a torn ACL. A groin issue forced him to miss time in 2019 as well.

Fuller was on pace to finish a full season last year and eclipse 1,000 yards before his suspension. For a speedy receiver, his lingering hamstrings are a big risk to take on for the future. Here are the five teams most likely to sign Fuller during the 2021 NFL free agency period.

2021 NFL Free Agency: Potential Will Fuller Landing Spots

Washington Football Team

The Washington Football Team was the best worst team from the NFC East in 2020 and it earned them a playoff berth. Even with a 7-9 record, Washington kept the eventual Super Bowl winners, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on their toes. Taylor Heinicke signed a new deal to stay in Washington and enters the offseason as the starter. Depending on the draft and the 2021 NFL free agency, he will have to compete with someone for the job. Fuller is the perfect piece to bring in no matter who is under center.

Sure, there’s Terry McLaurin, who had a 1,000-yard season in 2020 but the second leading receiver was Logan Thomas with just 670. Fuller has the speed and ability to take more coverage away from McLaurin. This offense could easily go from the bottom 10 in passing yards to a Top-15, depending on who is the starting quarterback.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens had their issues last year with injuries and positive COVID-19 tests. Lamar Jackson continues to struggle in being a better overall passer and is losing some of his major targets. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown should have had a much better year than 2019 but his ego got ahead of him at times. The Ravens are losing Willie Snead and Dez Bryant it seems, but neither was a real WR2 on. the roster.

Will Fuller could come in as a decently priced WR1 and allow Brown to fully reach his potential on this offense. Lamar gains a more confident receiver he can rely on as well when his TEs are being covered. Fuller could be a missing piece in winning the AFC North if Jackson can get him the ball. This has the potential to be a fantastic singing for the Ravens in the 2021 NFL free agency.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have a surplus to spend but they do have a ton of needs. QB will be the main focus but then it circles back to who he will throw to. Julian Edelman seems past his prime and could even be cut. Jakobi Meyers and Damiere Byrd are two young playmakers but there’s no real veteran presence should Edelman leave. Finding some help in the 2021 NFL free agency should give this roster the boost they need.

Bill Belichick is always willing to take a chance on guys with a rocky past. Fuller can really prove himself on a team like this and easily be the number one target for whatever QB the Patriots use. If it happens to be a rookie, Fuller’s yards-after-catch abilities can make it an easy transition for him.

New York Jets

This is basically the same situation as New England. The New York Jets have money and a ton of ways to spend it. Sam Darnold could be shipped out and a rookie may replace him. The Jets are one of the more enticing teams on this list because they are a favorite to land Fuller’s “former” QB in Deshaun Watson.

If Watson does go to the Jets, it just makes sense to add Fuller during the 2021 NFL free agency. He had his best year in 2020 with Watson and the two have a great connection and relationship on the field that Watson won’t have with anyone else. Besides, there is no true WR1 on this roster at the moment.

Los Angeles Chargers

This is more of a fun and exciting landing spot for Will Fuller. The Los Angeles Chargers have QB Justin Herbert leading the future of the franchise with a young and fun offense. Keenan Allen is the top dog and Mike Williams is trying to find his footing on Herbert’s offense. Fuller could come in and give Herbert a solid three starters to throw to. It could also be an excuse for LA to kick Williams to the curb should he continue to struggle.

The Chargers must give Herbert the best possible team in order to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs. That could all start by signing Will Fuller during the 2021 NFL free agency period.
