Gavin Lux will be a key part of the 2021 LA Dodgers. It was expected in 2020 that Lux would begin to emerge as a candidate to share reps in the infield and possibly compete for a regular starting role. Unfortunately, Lux did not have the season he hoped for. It seemed as if his confidence had diminished and there were concerns that it would be difficult for him to regain the form that had him atop the leaderboards for Dodgers prospects. As we reach the halfway point of the 2021 LA Dodgers’ Spring Training schedule, Lux is hitting the ball extremely well and seems ready to put his struggles in 2020 behind him.
2021 LA Dodgers: The Timing for Gavin Lux
The 2021 LA Dodgers will not return longtime utility man Enrique Hernandez who was signed by the Boston Red Sox. Hernandez would arguably be the infielder that Lux would need to compete with for time at second base along with Chris Taylor when Taylor is not in the outfield. Hernandez leaving certainly did not guarantee more at-bats for Lux, but his form thus far in the spring gives him a likely shot at being a regular part of the 2021 LA Dodgers lineup.
2020 started off interestingly for Lux, having reported late to camp and then struggling to gain any kind of great run in form. One of his top performances in 2020 was against the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he hit two home runs with five RBIs. A performance like that will give the 2021 LA Dodgers confidence that Lux if he can stay consistent, can be a key piece of the Dodgers team going forward.
2021 LA Dodgers: Spring Training
If his numbers this spring are any indication of what can be expected of Lux in the 2021 LA Dodgers regular season, Dodgers fans have a right to be excited. Lux is currently batting .400 with an OPS of .844. He has scored eight runs and driven in four while minimizing his strikeouts to only five in 25 at-bats. With Corey Seager also having an impressive spring campaign, a shortstop and second base tandem of Seager and Lux would be a welcomed sight for the 2021 LA Dodgers.
As impressive as his numbers are, the confidence we are seeing from Lux is equally as important. The reasons behind his struggles in 2020 are mixed, but as his confidence rises so will his play. This Dodgers lineup already features a wealth of talented hitters and the skill surrounding Lux will allow him to focus on contributing but not feel the pressure of needing to consistently deliver for the team to succeed.
2021 LA Dodgers: Prediction for Gavin Lux
Gavin Lux will begin the 2021 LA Dodgers regular season splitting time at second base and being a key factor against right-handed pitching. Lux will have a breakout season, and finish the year batting .295 with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs. More importantly than his hitting, Lux will contribute by rounding the bases and scoring more than 60 runs using his speed. In the latter part of the LA Dodgers 2021 season Lux will be the starting second baseman. Should the Dodgers make the playoffs, he will have a strong playoff run as the starting second baseman.
