Highly-rated Welsh prospect Mason Jones will take on Brazil’s veteran Alan Patrick on a yet-to-be fleshed-out UFC event, set for 5 June at the UFC APEX, Las Vegas. Both lightweight fighters are hoping to return to winning ways after disappointing recent performances. The fight was first reported by Combate.
Mason Jones Takes on Alan Patrick Booked for Battle on 5 June
25-year-old prospect Mason Jones (10-1) debuted in the UFC on January 21 amidst considerable fanfare but came up just short via a decision loss against a tough opponent in Mike Davis. The fighter from Blaenavon, southeast Wales, had a perfect 10-0 professional record prior to the event, amassing impressive victories within the UK’s Cage Warriors promotion.
Jones has demonstrated a complete martial arts skillset, accompanying pressuring striking with a slick ground game and devastating judo throws. The young fighter is one to watch in the future but faces a tough challenge in June to prove he belongs amongst the elite.
At 37-years of age, Brazilian fighter Alan Patrick (15-3) will bring a wealth of experience to the contest. Despite two recent losses, he has five UFC wins since making his debut in 2013. Patrick experienced a tough loss to Scott Holtzman in his last outing, but, belying his seniority, showcased explosive striking and dangerous submission attempts throughout.
Mason Jones and Alan Patrick is an interesting fight that will have long-term implications for the careers of both fighters. Jones has the opportunity to cement himself as a legitimate UFC prospect, whereas Patrick, having lost his previous two fights, the stakes are high for Patrick to deliver a strong performance on 5 June.
Jones and Patrick join a number of fights booked for the card, reportedly headlined by a heavyweight clash between Marcin Tybura and Walt Harris.
The fight card now looks as follows:
- Marcin Tybura vs. Walt Harris
- Ilir Latifi vs Tanner Boser
- Youssef Yalal vs Sean Woodson
- Maryna Moroz vs Manon Florot
Will Welsh prospect Mason Jones get his kickstart his UFC career? Or can Alan Patrick get back to winning ways?
