Cage Warriors Champion Paddy Pimblett Signs With UFC

The UFC has officially announced the signing of Liverpool, England’s Paddy Pimblett. “The Baddy” (16-3) is coming off the heels of his second consecutive opening-round finish at Cage Warriors 122.

The former Cage Warriors featherweight champ already owns an impressive resume, which includes a successful CW title defense against UFC veteran Julian Erosa. In his most recent performance, Pimblett dazzled from the opening bell – and secured a Rear Naked Choke on Davide Martinez. There’s a lot of momentum behind the 26 year old following his back-to-back stellar showings.

Debuting professionally in 2012, “The Baddy” has amassed a great deal of experience – mainly for the reputable Cage Warriors promotion. In 2013, Pimblett launched a nine-fight winning streak, which included six finishes. At just 21 years of age, he defeated Johnny Frachey to win the CW featherweight championship – which he’d go on to defend once.

Pimblett went just 1-2 with six fight cancelations from April 2017 to March 2020, but the Next Generation MMA (Liverpool) trainee returned with a vengeance last March, by securing a first-round TKO against Decky Dalton. Having fought his previous four bouts at lightweight (3-1), so it’s fair to expect Pimblett to make his UFC debut in that weight class.

The ever-so sought-after UFC contract has eluded Pimblett in the past, but the former Cage Warriors star is more than deserving of this opportunity. In a recent interview with Walker Van Wey, the Brit envisioned signing with the UFC after getting a finish at Cage Warriors 122.

“When the UFC comes back again and offers me a contract I will be going,” Pimblett affirmed. “I think that with a nice finish in this next fight, the UFC will come in and offer me a contract. That’s what I’m planning on to be honest.”

It’s official, Paddy Pimblett signs with UFC. What are your thoughts on this news? How high can “The Baddy” climb once he makes his long-awaited debut? Leave your thoughts in the comment section!
